Medicines have benefits and some have risks. Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist or you have side effects see your health professional. Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturer depending on the country of origin. Images are provided as a reference only, the received medicine may vary in packaging, color, pill shape, etc, from one batch to the next. For an item marked "generic" any quality brand may be sent, however you will always receive the active ingredients ordered in the strength(s) ordered.

Azicip (azithromycin) is a macrolide antibiotic used to prevent or treat a wide variety of bacterial infections around the world. It is well-tolerated by patients of any age; Azicip is often prescribed for infants, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems, though dosage modifications may be required for these individuals.

Patients purchasing Azicip (or azithromycin by any name) to help treat Covid-19 should take care to first get a doctor's approval and instructions regarding dosage amount and frequency of administration, particularly for very young or very elderly patients. Azithromycin for Covid-19 is always co-administered with hydroxychloroquine or similar medications; it is very unlikely to provide significant benefit in this illness if used on its own. Hydroxychloroquine can be found here.

Azicip Overview

Azicip inhibits bacteria from making proteins needed to grow, spread, and thrive. This inhibition allows the immune system to defeat it with relative ease.

As Azicip is an antibacterial, it has little effect on viral or fungal infections. When used in such patients, the medication helps the patient prevent or fight off secondary bacterial infections, such as commonly occur when a patient has viral pneumonia.

Azicip is also frequently used when a bacterial infection is the primary concern. It is often used to treat or help treat:

  • Typhoid
  • Malaria
  • Pneumonia
  • Tonsillitis
  • Lyme Disease
  • Strep throat
  • Middle ear infections
  • Sinus infections/sinusitis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Prevention of infection before dental or medical procedures
  • Bacterial infections in infants, the elderly, and immunocompromised patients
  • Sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia and genital ulcers
  • Many other bacterial infections

Taking Azicip

Azicip comes as tablets, which should be taken with a full glass of fluid. Food is optional, but may reduce gastrointestinal side effects if experienced.

As with any antibiotic, it is important to follow doctor instructions regarding dosage amount, frequency of administration, and duration of treatment. Many patients will experience a complete absence of symptoms before treatment is scheduled to end; it is important to continue treatment for the full prescribed time even if this occurs. Ending treatment early encourages development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Given the wide range of conditions Azicip is used to treat, it is too complicated to provide comprehensive dosage and administration guidelines. A doctor will provide these, or, failing doctor input, patients should do their own research regarding Azicip and a given condition.

Potential Side Effects

Side effects associated with Azicip use are similar to those which can be experienced with any antibiotic. The more common side effects are typically mild and short-lasting:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Mild skin rashes
  • Mild diarrhea
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Insomnia

The above are not cause for concern unless severe or persistant.

More serious side effects are rare, but if experienced do call for doctor consultation:

  • Uneven or rapid heartbeat
  • Chest pain
  • Severe, persistent, or bloody diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)

Patients with a history of jaundice or liver problems may be at greater risk of certain side effects with Azicip. The benefits versus risks should be discussed with a doctor before initiating treatment.

Many other medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, can interact with Azicip. Make sure the prescribing doctor is aware of all other medications being taken, and double-check with a doctor or pharmacist regarding safety if any new medications are added.
