Hytrin

Hytrin goes by the name terazosin HCl and belongs to a class of drugs called alpha-blockers, antihypertensives. Dosage

Hypertension

Initial dose: 1 mg before the patient goes to sleep is the recommended dosage for all users and should not be exceeded. Compliance with this requirement should be observed to reduce the risk of acute first-dose hypotensive occurrence.

Subsequent doses: The doctor may increase the single daily dosage by doubling it weekly until desired blood pressure is achieved. A usual maintenance dose is 2 mg to 10 mg once daily.

BPH

Adults' initial dose: 1 mg before sleep at night and should not be exceeded to minimize the risk of acute first-dose hypotensive episodes.

Subsequent dose

Dosage may be increased weekly or bi-weekly by doubling the initial dose until the desired reduction in symptoms is observed. The maintenance dose is 5 mg to 10 mg, taken once daily.

Administration

Side effects

The patient should seek medical help if they develop any of these signs of an allergic reaction: Inflammation of the face, tongue, lips, or throat. However, A doctor should be called immediately after any of these serious side effects develops.

• Painful penis erection lasting for more than 4 hours.
• A feeling of that patient may pass out; or
• Quick pounding heartbeats or fluttering chest

Less serious side effects include:

Interactions

Hytrin can lower additive blood pressure and lead to symptomatic hypotension.

In studies, Hytrin tablets were mixed with diuretics and other beta-adrenergic blockers. No unexplained interactions were observed. Hytrin tablets (terazosin HCl) were also administered to patients on various concomitant therapies. No interactions were observed either.

Hytrin may interact with other medications, which may change its mode of action or increase the patient's risk for serious side effects.  The patient should keep a list of all products they use (nonprescription/prescription and herbal drugs) and inform their doctor or pharmacist. Storage

Hytrin should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture and light. Capsules must be stored between 20-25 degrees C or 68-77 degrees F to prevent melting at higher temperatures. Patients should keep all medication away from children and pets.
