Livostin Eye Drops (levocabastine) offer allergy-sufferers a fast and simple solution to allergy symptoms in the eyes. This antihistamine can be used as-needed or on daily basis for up to 10 weeks. It is suitable for use in all patients of 12 years of age and up.

The medication significantly reduces or eliminates entirely eye symptoms of:

• Watering
• Itching
• Burning
• Redness
• Inflammation

Livostin eye drops work by disrupting the release of histamine in the eyes. Topical administration of the medication is preferable to oral methods, in which the drug is distributed throughout the bloodstream where it may cause side effects and interact with other medications. With eye drops, only a miniscule amount of the medication enters the bloodstream, so side effects and drug interactions are extremely unlikely.

The only downside to Livostin eye drops is that they don't address allergy symptoms in other areas, such as the nasal passages---but there's Livostin nasal spray for that.

Along with being a safe product, Livostin eye drops work very quickly---symptoms are significantly reduced just 15 minutes after administration, and very often eliminated entirely within 30 minutes. Eyes will both look and feel better as inflammation and irritation are reduced.

Like most eye drop treatments, Livostin eye drops are easy to use:

• Administer 1 or 2 drops to each affected eye 2 times per day.
• Increase to 1 or 2 drops in each affected eye 3 or 4 times per day if needed.

The medication is effective at managing allergy symptoms from any allergen; pet dander, mold, dust and so forth, in addition to the common seasonal pollen allergies. In all cases the eye drops can be used sporadically, as-needed, or used continually on a daily basis over the long term. Effects are somewhat more potent if the medication is used for several consecutive days. Treatment can safely continue on a daily basis for up to 10 weeks.

Livostin eye drops can be used with other eye treatments, including other eye drops or ointments. However, these should not be administered at the same time; wait at least 15 minutes before administering a different type of eye drop. Many ointments repel other fluids and may prevent the eye drops from contacting the eye; if possible administer Livostin eye drops prior to ointments or a few hours after.

Soft contact lenses should not be used for the duration of treatment with Livostin eye drops.

Precautions & Adverse Effects

As mentioned previously, side effects from Livostin eye drops are unlikely. About 30 percent of users experience a mild stinging or burning sensation when the drops are applied, lasting no more than a few moments.

Though exceedingly rare, a small percentage of patients do experience side effects similar to those of orally administered antihistamines:

• Headache
• Nausea
• Fatigue
• Dry eyes
• Blurred vision (temporary)

The above side effects are only cause for concern if severe.

There are no known drug interactions associated with Livostin eye drop use.

Some other tips to keep in mind to ensure treatment is trouble-free:

• The eye drop solution should be clear. Do not use if discolored or if it contains particulates.
• Do not use the solution if it has been frozen.
• Be careful that the dropper tip does not come into contact with any surfaces; this may introduce bacteria to the eye.
• If the eye does become infected, discontinue use until after the infection has been cleared up.

It is not known if the small amounts of the medication which enter the bloodstream are harmful to unborn or nursing babies. Parents should discuss potential risks with a trusted doctor before use.
