Evorel (estradiol) is a Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) medication that supplies the body with the female hormone estrogen. It is most commonly prescribed for women experiencing symptoms such as hot flashes, difficulty sleeping, vaginal dryness and other symptoms commonly associated with menopause, though many women begin to experience these symptoms before menopause as the body's natural estrogen production begins to decline with age. It is also helpful in younger women who have had their uterus removed or who have other conditions that impair estrogen production.
This is an estrogen-only product. Women who have an intact uterus should not take an estrogen-only supplement without also taking a progestogen hormone. There is a significantly increased risk of developing serious complications, including some kinds of cancer, if a progestogen is not taken along with estrogen when the uterus is intact. There are two routes of treatment in these cases; patients can supplement estrogen-only medications with a separate progestogen product, or choose a combination treatment that combines estrogen and progestogen in the same product, such as Evorel Conti Patch. Patients who do not have a uterus do not need to worry about progestogen.
Product Overview
Evorel comes in patches. The patches are available in different dosage strengths which are indicated by a number in the product's name; this number describes how many micrograms of estradiol are released in a 24-hour period. In other words:
The ideal dosage strength should be determined by a doctor; treatment is highly variable depending on the severity of symptoms, other medical conditions which may be present, other medications being taken, and individual factors like age and weight. In otherwise healthy individuals treatment usually starts with Evorel 50; dosage may be adjusted after a few weeks when effects can be fully seen. Evorel patches alleviate a number of symptoms associated with reduced estrogen production:
Patches are worn for 3 or 4 days and then replaced with a new patch. They should be placed on the trunk of the body below the waistline, and patches should placed on a new application site each time to prevent skin irritation. Evorel patches are waterproof and can be worn in the shower or bath, though excessive sweating may cause patches to fall off. If a patch does fall off it should be replaced with a new one.
Precautions & Adverse Effects
Most women find Evorel helps transition through menopause with minimal symptoms. However, some individuals are at significantly greater risk of experiencing complications from using this medication. Do not use this or any estrogen supplement without explicit doctor instruction if there is a history of:
In otherwise healthy patients side effects are rare, usually mild, and usually fade away as the body adjusts to treatment. The most commonly reported side effects include:
The above side effects are generally not cause for concern unless severe or persistent. Speak with a doctor if concerned; a dosage adjustment may help.

Evorel Conti Patch (estradiol, norethisterone) is used in Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), most commonly in women who are experiencing symptoms of menopause. It is also used to help prevent osteoporosis in post-menopausal women, and less commonly in other conditions.
Evorel Conti Patch is a continuous combined HRT, which means it contains both an estrogen hormone, estradiol, and a progestogen hormone, norethisterone. In women who have a uterus it is important that estrogen therapy include a progestogen to reduce risk of developing certain types of cancer, as well as other complications. Women who have had a hysterectomy do not need to worry about taking a progestogen and will find estrogen-only treatments, such as Evorel patches, more suitable.
This product is available in packs of 8 or 24 patches, both of which are identical in dosage strength.
HRT with Evorel Conti Patch
As mentioned above, this product is most frequently used in women experiencing disruptive symptoms associated with low estrogen levels, including:
It takes a few weeks of treatment for full effects to be felt. Dosage adjustments are not unusual over the course of treatment. In the majority of cases HRT is meant to help the body adjust to menopause gradually, but not to maintain HRT indefinitely; it does carry risk of adverse effects---some of which can be quite serious---and these risks increase with duration of use. The risks versus benefits of HRT should be reevaluated at least once per year.
Evorel Conti Patch does see application in other scenarios, for example:
The hormone estrogen sees much wider use, such as treating certain types of cancer in men or promoting female characteristics in gender transitions, but, since the progestogen included in Evorel Conti Patch provides no benefit to individuals without a uterus, estrogen-only treatments are preferred in these cases.
Warnings & Side Effects
Some individuals are at increased risk of experiencing potentially serious complications while using Evorel Conti Patch. Do not use this or any other estrogen supplement without explicit doctor instruction if there is a history of:
The above conditions do not necessarily mean an estrogen supplement cannot be used, but risks should be carefully discussed with a doctor beforehand. Likewise routine checkups should be performed to monitor for any developing complications.
In otherwise healthy patients side effects are rare, usually mild, and should fade away as the body adjusts to treatment. The most commonly reported side effects include:
The above side effects are generally not cause for concern unless severe or persistent. Speak with a doctor if concerned; a dosage adjustment may help.
Other medications can interfere with the effectiveness of Evorel Conti Patch, most notably:
The above is not a complete list of medications that may interact with Evorel Conti Patch. Check with a doctor or pharmacist before mixing medications.
Evorel Sequi (estradiol, norethisterone) is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) used to alleviate symptoms of menopause. It can be used in both pre- and post-menopausal women, and it also used in post-menopausal women to reduce risk of osteoporosis. It should only be used by women with an intact uterus.
Product Description
Evorel Sequi consists of two types of patches; each type of patch contains different hormones:
The progestin contained in half the patches is what makes this product suitable only for women with an intact uterus; it prevents potential complications of the uterus associated with estrogen supplementation. Note that women who have had ovaries removed but retained the uterus can use Evorel Sequi.
Women who have had their uterus removed can use an estrogoen-only product, such as Everol Patches or Estrace tablets. More options are available on our estradiol page, but note that this page also includes other combination treatments as well.
Patches are applied twice per week, so 8 patches provide one month of treatment, 16 patches provide two months of treatment, and so forth.
Using Evorel Sequi
Like other HRTs, Evorel Sequi is designed to ease the menopausal symptoms most women experience as they age and less estrogen is produced by the ovaries. The medication helps reduce or even completely alleviate these menopausal symptoms, especially during the difficult transition period.
Evorel Sequi patches offer a number of benefits:
Patches should be applied to clean, dry skin below the waist, such as the thigh. Estradiol-only patches (Evorel 50 patches, marked CE50) should be applied for two weeks, followed by two weeks of the norethisterone + estradiol patches (Evorel Conti patches, marked CEN1). This cycle should repeat until treatment ends.
More detailed instructions are provided in the insert that comes with each package.
The need for HRT should be reevaluated periodically. HRT is not without risks, and those risks increase the longer it goes on.
Warnings & Side Effects
An important thing to keep in mind if using any sort of estrogen patch is to never apply it on or near the breasts. Doing so can put women at significantly increased risk of breast cancer, especially if there is any history of it.
Estrogen is a powerful hormone than can influence nearly every part of the body. Many women use HRT with no issues, but many others will experience side effects. Some side effects can be difficult to detect without laboratory tests; regular doctor checkups are encouraged for the duration of treatment.
Potential side effects include:
Some medications and supplements can reduce the blood level of the medications in Evorel Sequi, rendering it less effective:
Women using Evorel Sequi patches, or any HRT, should be alert for any new symptoms and contact a doctor with any questions or concerns---no matter how trivial they may seem.

Wouldn't trade Evorel 50 for any other HRT product
