Angispan -TR Tablets for Angina

Angispan- TR Tablet is a prescription drug used to alleviate and prevent chest discomfort caused by a heart condition. Angina is chest pain or discomfort caused by a lack of oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle. The symptoms are chest discomfort, tightness, or heaviness, which is abrupt or recurring. This medication works by relaxing and enlarging blood arteries, allowing more blood to circulate to the heart. However, it is not recommended for children or the elderly.

What Is Angispan-TR Tablet?

Angispan tablet contains Nitroglycerin, which prevents and cures chest discomfort and angina pectoris symptoms.

The drug belongs to a group of medicines called vasodilators.

How Do Angispan-TR Tablets Work?

Angispan pill is metabolized into free radical nitric oxide, which stimulates the enzyme guanylate cyclase. Activating this enzyme causes dephosphorylation, which relaxes vascular smooth muscles and blood arteries in your body, increasing blood and oxygen flow to the heart. It decreases cardiac preload, afterload, and coronary artery spasms, lowering systemic vascular resistance and blood pressure. As a result, it lessens the burden on your heart and curbs angina episodes (chest pain).

The impact of this medicine is evident 1 hour after oral administration and lasts an average of 8-12 hours.

Uses of Angispan –TR Tablets

Angispan TR Tablet is used to treat and prevent chest discomfort caused by angina pectoris in adults by expanding blood vessels and increasing blood and oxygen flow to the heart.

Benefits of Angispan-TR Tablets

Angispan-TR medication treats angina (heart-related chest discomfort) by relaxing the muscles and blood vessels in your heart, allowing more blood (and oxygen) to reach your heart. Thus, it lessens the pain and suffering caused by angina.

How to Use Angispan -TR Tablets

Before using Angispan-TR Tablets, thoroughly read the medication guide and follow the directions on the prescription label. If something is unclear, ask your doctor or pharmacist for clarification. Your doctor will calculate the appropriate dose to alleviate your problems. Take the drug for the stated amount of time.

Take this tablet by mouth, primarily once or twice a day, with/without food or as recommended by your clinician. It must not be eaten, crushed, or damaged in any way.

Drink plenty of water while taking this drug to avoid gastric problems unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Take these tablets regularly to get the most out of them. Remember to use it every day at the same time(s).

If you forget to take your Angispan TR Capsules at a specific time, take the dose as soon as you recall. If your next dosage is approaching, omit the missing dose. Do not increase your amount to compensate for a missing dose.

Note: If you ingest more than the recommended dosage, you may get headaches, disorientation, fever, changes in your heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, and other symptoms. Contact your doctor immediately to begin overdose treatment.

Angispan -TR Tablets Dosage Forms

The dose of Angispan - TR Capsule is determined by various criteria, including medical condition, history, and other considerations. Because the age and severity of the disease vary from person to person, you should always check with your doctor about the duration of your treatment plan.

Note: Angispan – TR Tablet is not prescribed for children and adolescents (Pediatric Population) and should be used cautiously in the elderly (Geriatric Population).

Ditropan (oxybutynin) is an anticholinergic medication primarily used to help patients manage symptoms of overactive bladder. It is sometimes used to help patients with symptoms of kidney stones, and rarely to help treat hyperhidrosis (abnormal sweating).

For overactive bladder, Ditropan works by easing spasms in the bladder. This allows the bladder to retain more urine and eases symptoms of:

  • Urgent urination
  • Frequent urination
  • Incontinence
  • Nighttime incontinence
  • Frequent waking up to urinate

Though effective, Ditropan is not a cure. If other measures are not taken, symptoms will likely return when treatment ends.

Ditropan can be used in some scenarios in children age 5 and up. Both children and the elderly will need modified dosing.

Treating Adults

Overactive bladder predominantly effects older adults, but does sometimes crop up in younger patients. Regardless of age, it's important that the condition be diagnosed by a doctor prior to taking Ditropan; if it is not the result of bladder spasms, the medication is unlikely to provide benefit.

In otherwise healthy adults treatment typically consists of:

  • Take 5 mg two or three times per day (total of 10 to 15 mg per day).
  • Rarely some patients will be advised to increase to 5 mg taken four times per day (20 mg total).
  • Do not exceed 5 mg four times per day (20 mg total).

Elderly patients may be started on 2.5 mg two or three times per day. This can be increased after a week or two if no adverse effects develop.

Duration of treatment is variable. Side effects become an increasing concern the longer this medication is taken, and some patients will be advised to supplement vitamins if taken long term. Regular doctor checkups are important so a doctor can monitor for developing side effects.

On the other hand, if no other measures are taken to address overactive bladder, symptoms will likely return when treatment ends. There are numerous simple exercises patients can do to help improve bladder control, such as pelvic floor training or bladder retraining. There is an abundance of information about these methods on the internet. They are not always effective, however.

Surgery is also an option for some patients, though it is costly, invasive, and may lead to side effects of its own. Some patients will ultimately be faced with the choice between surgery or long-term treatment with Ditropan or a similar medication; this should be discussed carefully with a doctor.

Treating Children

A child should absolutely be diagnosed by a doctor before being given Ditropan, especially those around age 5 to 7. Odds of the condition being caused by bladder spasms are relatively low in children, and, again, this medication will not provide benefit if bladder spasms are not present.

It is a problem in some young children, however. In those cases:

  • Administer 5 mg two times per day (total 10 mg).
  • Rarely a child, usually an older child, will be advised to take 5 mg three times per day (total 15 mg).
  • Do not administer more than 5 mg three times per day (total 15 mg).

Parents may help children with some bladder exercises, though---particularly with young children---this can be difficult. Surgery is rarely a viable option in such young candidates either. Parents will need to discuss the particular issues the child faces with a doctor, and do their best to address them.

The good news is overactive bladder symptoms are rarely permanent in children, usually resolving themselves in a few weeks or months. If longer lasting, between medication and parental involvement in bladder training most children will eventually be fine.

Other Uses

Other uses of this medication are largely individualized, though maximum daily dosage should not exceed those above, and is often lower. In addition to doing their own research, patients should find a doctor familiar with using Ditropan to treat the particular condition.

Side Effects

Used as directed, side effects from Ditropan are relatively rare and not cause for concern unless they become severe enough to be disruptive. About 5 percent of patients report:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Drowsiness
  • Stomach discomfort
  • Dry mouth
  • Flushing

More rare, but also more concerning, side effects include:

  • Difficulty urinating
  • Painful urination
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • Reduced sweating
  • Vision changes
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Anxiety
  • Confusion

A doctor should be consulted if the above are experienced. If unable to consult a doctor quickly, Ditropan use should stop until one can be consulted.

In large doses, too much Ditropan can be fatal. If large or unknown quantities are taken seek emergency medical attention.

Buscopan for Abdominal Cramps

Buscopan is a prescription medication mainly used to treat pain due to smooth muscle spasms of the digestive system. It alleviates irritable bowel syndrome symptoms (abdominal discomfort, cramping, bloating, and diarrhea/constipation). Hyoscine butylbromide (10 mg) is the active ingredient in each round, white, sugar-coated tablet. That said, Buscopan tablets are not recommended for children under twelve.

What Are Buscopan Tablets?

Buscopan includes the active component hyoscine butylbromide, which minimizes stomach, intestinal, and bladder cramps. It relieves bloating and spasm-like discomfort linked to irritable bowel syndrome and diverticular disease. It works by relaxing the muscles in your digestive and urinary systems.

This drug belongs to the antispasmodic drug class.

How Do Buscopan Tablets Work?

In the gastrointestinal system, buscopan binds to muscarinic M3 receptors. That action inhibits acetylcholine from attaching to and activating the receptors, causing smooth muscle contraction. During abdominal cramps, contraction reduction lowers spasms and discomfort.

This drug's effect is noticeable 15 minutes after oral administration and lasts an average of 4 -6 hours.

What Are the Uses of Buscopan Tablets?

The medication treats the following;

  • Pain Relief from Smooth Muscle Spasms
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Benefits of Buscopan Tablets

  • Treatment of Pain Caused by Smooth Muscle Spasms

Buscopan, 10mg Tablet, eliminates smooth muscle soreness, stiffness, or spasms, resulting in improved muscular action. It relaxes the muscles and promotes food movement, aiding in treating cramps, discomfort, bloating, and irritation. To maintain optimal hydration, eat a fiber-rich diet, limit fatty/spicy foods, plus be sure to drink lots of fluids when taking the drug. The medication helps you go about your daily tasks more effortlessly and promotes a better, more active lifestyle.

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome Treatment

Irritable bowel syndrome is a chronic (long-term) inflammatory illness of the large intestine that typically needs long-term care. This condition results in bleeding, diarrhea, bloating, gas, cramping, and stomach pain. Buscopan, 10mg Tablet, relaxes the muscles in your stomach and gut (intestine) and effectively relieves these symptoms. Buscopan, 10mg is often used in conjunction with other medications to treat the illness.

How to Use Buscopan Tablets

Read the manufacturer's printed information sheet from within the package before beginning the therapy. The leaflet will offer you additional information about hyoscine butylbromide - buscopan, as well as a comprehensive list of the potential adverse effects.

Do not miss any doses, and complete the course as your doctor prescribes. When you experience stomach cramps or period discomfort, take this dose.

With a glass of water, swallow the tablets whole. The drug should not be crushed or chewed.

Buscopan has the potential to cause diarrhea. Drink lots of water when taking this medication to avoid dehydration.

Buscopan, 10mg Tablet, can be taken with or without meals, although it is best to take it simultaneously every day.

If you miss a dosage, skip it and proceed with your standard dosing plan. Do not take a double dose to compensate for a missed one. If you are unsure what to do after having missed a therapeutic dose, seek guidance from your pharmacist or healthcare provider.

Discuss with your pharmacist the ideal approach to dispose of drugs that are no longer needed or have expired.

If you are concerned or have taken more than one additional dosage, consult your clinician or doctor. It is unlikely that taking an extra dosage of Buscopan would harm you.

Buscopan Dosage Forms

Buscopan includes 10mg of hyoscine butylbromide in each pill. Whether you acquire them on prescription or not, the drugs have the same potency.

To be administered orally (tablets):

  • Adults and children aged 12 and above:  two tablets four times a day
  • Children 6 - 12 years: one tablet three times a day

Note: Children under the age of six should not take Buscopan Tablets.

Storage

  • Keep the medications out of children's reach and sight
  • Keep it cool and dry, away from direct heat and light

  • Decreased ability to sweat
  • Diarrhoea
  • Dizziness
  • Dryness of the mouth

Nitrostat (nitroglycerin) is used to prevent or treat angina (chest pain) in those who have coronary artery disease. Coronary artery disease describes the condition in which the arteries develop plaque build-up on their inner walls, causing them to become rigid and narrow, restricting blood flow. Angina occurs when the restricted flow is insufficient to supply the heart with oxygen, such as during physical activity, emotional distress, or, sometimes, for no apparent reason.

The medication works by widening and relaxing the constricted blood vessels, improving the flow of blood to the heart.

Using Nitrostat to Manage Angina

Nitrostat should be used as directed by a doctor; however, doctor instructions are usually very similar. As mentioned above there are two ways this medication is used, as a preventative treatment or to manage ongoing angina. Treatment differs slightly between the two.

To prevent angina from occurring:

  • Administer one Nitrostat about 5 to 10 minutes prior to physical activity or other scenario in which angina is likely.

To stop angina that is occurring:

  • Administer one Nitrostat.
  • After 5 minutes, administer a second, if needed.
  • After 5 minutes, administer a third, if needed.
  • If chest pain has not stopped after the third dose, seek emergency medical attention.
  • If chest pain has worsened after the first dose, seek emergency medical attention.

In both cases tablets should be dissolved in the mouth, either under the tongue or in the buccal pouch (between the gums and inner lining of the cheek); they should not be swallowed. Tablets should be taken from a resting position, ideally sitting down.

Ideally the smallest dose that provides benefit should be used to prevent tolerance, and similarly the medication should only be used when needed. For some patients, however, it can be difficult to tell when chest pain is angina or something else, like indigestion. Patients will want to err on the side of safety until the situation is understood.

Drug Interactions

Nitrostat is known to interact with a few other medications, most notably:

  • Alcohol
  • Aspirin
  • Tricyclic antidepressants
  • Anticholinergics
  • Ergotamine
  • PDE-5 inhibitors

Use of Nitrostat with alcohol may cause a dangerously low drop in blood pressure, while use with aspirin may enhance the medication's vosodilatory (widening of blood vessels) and hemodynamic (blood flow) effects.

Tricyclic antidepressants and anticholingergic medications both can impair saliva production, making it difficult for the Nitrostat tablet to be dissolved. This can be alleviated by chewing gum, use of artificial saliva, or fluids.

Patients should avoid ergotomine and related medications while taking Nitrostat. If unavoidable, the patient should be alert for symptoms of ergotism:

  • Itching
  • Diarrhea
  • Pins & needles
  • Nausea & vomiting
  • Mania or psychosis
  • Spasms
  • Seizures

Finally, patients should avoid use of PDE-5 inhibitors, which are sometimes given to lower high blood pressure, but more commonly are found in erectile dysfunction medications like Cialis or Viagra. Taken together, these drugs can reduce blood pressure to dangerously low levels and also decrease the effects of Nitrostat.

Side Effects

The number one most-commonly reported side effect from Nitrostat is actually a sign the medication is working: headache. Headaches can be treated with over-the-counter medications like acetaminophen once the Nitrostat has worked. If headaches are persistant or very severe, consult a doctor.

Other side effects include:

  • Dizziness
  • Lightheadedness
  • Flushing
  • Nausea
  • Burning or tingling under the tongue

Very rarely more serious side effects occur; seek emergency medical attention if:

  • Fainting
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Pounding heartbeat
  • Irregular heartbeat

Some individuals are allergic to Nitrostat. Seek emergency medical attention if experiencing any of the symptoms of an allergic reaction; rash, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing, swelling or itching of the face or throat.

Protonix (pantoprazole) is a proton-pump inhibitor used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), help with the healing of erosive esophagitis, and to treat Zollinger–Ellison syndrome or similar conditions.

Like all proton-pump inhibitors, Protonix works by reducing production of stomach acid. All medications in this class are well-tolerated, with side effects being rare and mild when used as directed. Proton-pump inhibitors are among the most widely-used medications in the world, with Protonix being somewhat more popular than similar medications.

Protonix can be used in patients age 5 years old and up, though dosage modification is required for younger patients.

Taking Protonix

This medication comes in tablets or oral solution; the oral solution is ideal for those who are unable or reluctant---as is often the case with young children---to swallow whole tablets. Tablets are preferred for other patients. Note that 20 mg tablets are smaller than 40 mg tablets; patients can take two 20 mg tablets for the same effect as a single 40 mg tablets, if the 40 mg tablet is difficult to swallow.

Protonix tablets must be swallowed whole; they cannot be split, crushed or dissolved. This is because they're designed to gradually release medication over time. Tablets can be taken with or without food according to personal preference.

Treatment of otherwise healthy adults varies to some degree depending on what's being treated.

To treat GERD:

  • Take 40 mg once per day.
  • Continue treatment for up to 8 weeks.

To help heal erosive esophagitis:

  • Take 40 mg once per day.
  • Continue treatment for up to 8 weeks.

To help with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome or similar conditions in which excessive stomach acid is produced:

  • Take 40 mg twice per day.
  • Continue treatment for as long as a doctor recommends.

To treat GERD in children weighing 88 lbs (40 kg) or less:

  • Take 20 mg once per day.
  • Continue treatment for 8 weeks.

Protonix will reduce the amount of stomach acid produced; this will help reduce the heartburn, difficulty swallowing, coughing, and other symptoms. It will help the esophagus heal without exposure to gastric acids and, in the case of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, will eliminate many of the associated symptoms, including pain and diarrhea.

Warnings & Side Effects

Protonix, used as directed, is a remarkably safe medication. Side effects are rare and mild, usually well-worth the trade-off for reduction of stomach acid. Rarely, though, and more commonly when the medication is used in greater quantity or for longer than recommended, serious side effects may develop:

  • Low vitamin B12
  • Low magnesium
  • Kidney problems
  • Risk of broken bones in the hip or spine (particularly in the elderly)

Note that low levels of magnesium in particular can lead to heart and other muscle problems. Seek medical attention if the heart beats rapidly, slowly, or irregularly, and if any muscle spams or cramps develop.

Low levels of stomach acid, as produced by Protonix use, may reduce the stomach's ability to destroy bacteria that are ingested. While this is usually only an issue for individuals in a hospital setting---thus exposed to a relatively high rate of bacteria---patients should be alert for symptoms of infection.

Protonix can interact with certain other medications, including:

  • Blood thinners
  • Diuretics
  • Iron supplementation
  • Antifungals
  • HIV medications

Patients who are allergic to any other proton-pump inhibitor will likely be allergic to Protonix. A doctor can safely test for this.

Protonix should not be used while pregnant or breastfeeding unless the benefits clearly outweigh the risks. In animal studies, at much higher doses, Protonix did produce birth defects, though it's not know if this happens in humans, or at doses administered to humans.

Tricor (fenofibrate) is a fibrate medication predominantly used to help treat high cholesterol and high triglycerides. Less commonly it may be used to help prevent some complications from type 2 diabetes, and it also has a few off-label uses.

There are a number of conditions which involve high cholesterol or triglycerides, and Tricor can help reduce levels in most of them. Patients are strongly advised to see a doctor prior to starting Tricor treatment for ideal dosage, as well as evaluating potential side effects and general monitoring of the condition.

While Tricor is sometimes used in patients below age 18, the medication has not been studied in this group and parents should not administer the medication without explicit doctor approval and involvement.

Getting Started with Tricor

Tricor comes in tablets or capsules, which should be taken with a meal and a beverage. Most patients take just one dose per day. Taking each dose at the same time each day will help keep levels of the medication consistent in the body, helping to maximize treatment benefits.

Dosage is difficult to quantify. It depends on what is being treated as well as patient response, and there are numerous other factors that can influence dosage, including age, weight, other medical conditions, and so forth. In general it ranges between 54 to 160 mg per day, but there are exceptions.

Patients will need to attend periodic doctor visits for as long as treatment continues, to ensure the medication is working correctly, for dose modifications when needed, and to monitor for developing side effects. This medication can have serious consequences if misused; it is important to attend these doctor visits.

Treatment may continue for as long as Tricor provides benefit and no serious side effects develop. For most patients treatment is not indefinite, though it may last several years.

Lifestyle Modifications

The vast majority of patients will be given suggested lifestyle changes along with Tricor; in fact, many patients will need to make some changes prior to being given a prescription for Tricor. Some examples include:

  • Reducing cholesterol intake
  • Reducing sodium intake
  • Starting a regular exercise regimen
  • Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight
  • Quitting smoking
  • Controlling blood sugar

There are numerous other lifestyle changes that may also be advised; again, changes are best quantified by a doctor who can take into account personal variables.

Patients are strongly advised to make and adhere to suggested changes to as great an extent as possible. While they can be difficult at first, they become easier over time and, in most cases, are the only way to end dependency on medications. Tricor will still provide some benefit if changes are not made, but the condition is very unlikely to significantly improve and such patients will most likely need to continue taking medications for the remainder of life.

Switching Brands

There are numerous other brands of medications that contain Tricor's active ingredient, fenofibrate. Despite containing the same ingredient, care must be taken before switching brands. Bioavailability often differs between them, meaning it is easy to take too little or too much if unaware. The need for food with each dose also varies by brand.

Patients would do best to buy the brand of medication prescribed by a doctor. If, for whatever reason, switching brands is desirable, double-check with a doctor as to the proper dose amount and other administration factors. While sites like this one make efforts to ensure that information is correct and up-to-date, mistakes do happen and there is no substitution for doctor input.

Warnings

There are some other medical conditions which may call for modified dosing of Tricor, or render it unsuitable for use at all. Of greatest concern are:

  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Diabetes
  • Hypothyroidism

Patients with the above---or any major medical condition---should be sure to discuss potential risks with a doctor before taking Tricor. The medication can produce severe side effects, and the above increase the risk of experiencing them.

Tricor can also interact with a variety of other medications, including over-the-counter varieties and recreational drugs, including alcohol. Double-check with a doctor or pharmacist before taking any other medications during treatment, and avoid excess use of recreational drugs.

Potential Side Effects

Most patients who take Tricor as directed do not experience any major side effects. Most commonly experienced mild symptoms are:

  • Sneezing
  • Runny nose
  • Stuffy nose
  • Mild stomach discomfort

Unfortunately, though rare, more serious side effects do sometimes develop. Patients may experience:

  • Back pain
  • Skin sensitivity to sunlight
  • Chills
  • Fever
  • Stomach pain
  • Vomiting
  • Dark urine
  • Jaundice
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle cramps or spasms

Patients who experience the above may need to seek emergency medical attention if the side effect becomes severe. Patients who experience the above, even if not severe enough to warrant emergency medical attention, should speak with the prescribing doctor about it. Dosage modifications may be called for, or stopping the medication entirely before a side effects worsens.

Bepanthen is a cream with a wide range of uses, from preventing diaper rash to improving skin appearance. The active ingredient is pro-vitamin B5, an essential nutrient used to restore and maintain skin health, among other functions.

One of the most remarkable features of Bepanthen is its safety. There are no known side effects, drug interactions or dietary interactions. Rarely some individuals may experience allergic reactions to other ingredients in the cream, but this is very unlikely.

The Many Uses of Bepanthen

Bepanthen cream is a very versatile treatment. Though often marketed as a diaper rash treatment, people regularly use the product in other skin-care applications:

  • Heal and prevent diaper rash
  • Promote healing of minor wounds
  • Promote healing of sunburn and rashes
  • Restore dry or irritated skin
  • Improve skin hydration
  • Improve skin appearance
  • Soothe insect bites or stings
  • Soothe and heal chapped skin, including lips
  • Soothe and heal chapped or cracked nipples from breast-feeding

In essence, Bepanthen can be used to heal and restore any kind of mildly damaged or irritated skin. It has shown some promise in healing more serious injuries as well---such as diabetic ulcers---but it should not be used as a replacement for medical attention in these cases.

Bepanthen cream is as easy to use as it is safe:

  • For diaper rash Bepanthen cream can be used as both a treatment and a preventive measure. In both cases the cream should be applied every time there is a diaper change. Rinse the area and let it dry before applying the cream. Give the cream several moments to be absorbed before covering with a new diaper---or, if possible, leave the skin uncovered. If a diaper is necessary, make sure it is loose enough to allow some air circulation.
  • For chapped or cracked nipples, apply the cream every few hours as-needed to provide relief and promote healing. Be sure to rinse the cream off before breast-feeding, and rinse and dry nipples afterward before reapplying cream.
  • For improved skin appearance, apply cream to clean, dry skin at bedtime or other times in which makeup or other products will not be applied. It may take a few days of treatment for improvements to begin to be noticeable, but over time it will promote soft, supple, properly-moisturized skin---some users even report a reduction in fine lines.
  • For all other uses, including minor burns, cuts, rashes, bites or stings and so forth, simply clean and dry the area and apply the cream as-needed every few hours until the condition is resolved. It may be used indefinitely if treating a chronic condition with no concerns about side effects.

As Bepanthen cream is absorbed into the skin it creates a protective, breathable barrier which inhibits contamination or further irritation. If the application area becomes wet this barrier may be washed off, so the cream should be reapplied.

Bepanthen's soothing effects are usually apparent just moments after application. It may take several days of treatment for a wound, rash or other injury to fully heal.

Warnings & Side Effects

As mentioned above, Bepanthen is remarkably safe. The most significant risk by far---though still very minimal---is that of an allergic reaction. Warning signs of an allergic reaction include swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty breathing; severe itching, rash or hives; severe confusion or unconsciousness. These symptoms often develop very rapidly and warrant emergency medical attention.

Using other skin products on areas treated with Bepanthen, such as makeup, sunblock, lotions or topical medications is also unlikely to prove harmful, but doing so may reduce the effectiveness of Bepanthen or vice versa. Check with a doctor or pharmacist before mixing Bepanthen with a medicated skin treatment if unsure of consequences.

Clinicians Prospan Bronchial Syrup is a natural, herbal remedy that provides fast, lasting relief from symptoms of common respiratory ailments, including throat irritation, coughing and congestion.

The mild but pleasantly-flavored syrup is suitable for use in all ages. Because respiratory ailments can quickly become severe in very young patients, however, it is advisable to have any children under 2 seen by a doctor first. The syrup should not be used while pregnant or breastfeeding without first discussing potential risks with a doctor.

Proven by the Test of Time

The healing properties of ivy leaf have been known at least since the time of ancient Greece, where the plant was a favored remedy of Hippocrates. Clinicians Prospan Bronchial Syrup hasn't been around quite that long, but it does have a 20 year history of safely and effectively treating respiratory ailments around the world.

While ivy leaf can be prepared in many ways and provides benefits all over the body, it is particularly useful in combating ailments of the respiratory system, where it:

  • Relaxes airways
  • Improves respiratory function
  • Thins mucous
  • Alleviates coughing
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Lubricates membranes
  • Inhibits bacterial and viral activity

Not only does the extract alleviate the symptoms of respiratory ailments, it aids the immune system in combating the microbes causing the symptoms in the first place. Clinicians Prospan Bronchial Syrup provides relief quickly and without the drowsiness, dizziness, confusion and similar side effects associated with most modern cough syrups.

Ivy leaf's function as an anti-inflammatory agent and bronchial system relaxant also alleviates symptoms of chronic conditions like asthma, COPD and bronchitis when these conditions are being particularly troublesome. Note, however, that the safety of using Clinicians Prospan Bronchial Syrup for more than 30 consecutive days has not been established.

Clinicians Prospan Bronchial Syrup can be used on its own or to complement other medications, vitamins or supplements.

Directions for Use

Clinicians Prospan Bronchial Syrup can be used at any point when throat or airway irritation is present. Each bottle includes a measuring cup. Dosage depends on age:

  • Patients 12 years old and up - take 5 ml 3 times per day.
  • Patients 6 to 11 years - take 5 ml 2 times per day.
  • Patients 2 to 5 years - take 2.5 ml 2 times per day.
  • Patients under 2 years - take 2.5 ml 2 times per day after doctor approval.

Treatment should continue for 2 or 3 days after all symptoms are gone, to ensure the condition is completely cleared up. Note that the syrup will begin to lose potency around three months after being opened, and should be replaced.

If used as directed side effects are vanishingly rare. A very small percentage of patients may experience mild gastrointestinal upset, including nausea, cramps, gas and so forth.

Less than 1 in 10,000 individuals are allergic to ivy leaf, but allergic reactions do happen on occasion. Symptoms include swelling of the throat, tongue, lips or face, redness, severe itching, rash or hives, difficulty breathing and confusion. An allergic reaction should be treated as a medical emergency.

Panadol Product Information

Not all paracetamol brands are created equal. Some have additives that imbue them with additional therapeutic properties, and some are not usable by people with different pre-existing conditions. Generic paracetamol, however, is considered one of the most usable and effective relivers of mild to moderate pain. If you are after a painkiller that is affordable, powerful, and safe for general use all at once, you only need to look at the most popular paracetamol brand in the global market: Panadol.

The fame of Panadol is widespread, and for good reason: millions of satisfied users all over the world, and throughout the years, can attest to its effectiveness. It is being sold over the counter in 80 countries and is now considered the most accessible form of paracetamol in the pharmaceutical industry. This is the leading paracetamol brand in the United Kingdom and Australia.

The regular over-the-counter (OTC) version of Panadol contains 500 mg of acetaminophen. Paracetamol is another name for acetaminophen. To avoid confusion, simply remember that "acetaminophen" and "paracetamol" are taken from the two different names of the same chemical compound: PARA-aCETyl-AMino-phenOL and N-ACETyl-para-AMINOPHENol. Health professionals may sometimes shorten the common name of this compound even further to "apap," which stands for N-Acetyl-Para-AminoPhenol.

The exact process of how paracetamol relieves pain and fever has not yet been fully discovered. However, medical experts today believe that it works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins in the body's central nervous areas, also known as the brain and the spinal cord.

Prostaglandins are found in virtually every human tissue, and serve different functions in different parts of the body. They are produced as a natural response to injury or ailment. One of the effects of prostaglandins is sensitizing nerve endings and causing pain, presumably in order to caution us not to inflict further harm on already upset areas. At times natural processes may be parsed as injuries by the human body. A common example of the production of pain-causing prostaglandins is the case of monthly periods, where the human body sometimes goes on overdrive in its production of prostaglandins.

By hindering the creation of prostaglandins in the central nervous system, paracetamol is able to raise our threshold of pain. Even if the condition that triggered the prostaglandin is still active, the pain is significantly reduced.

The potency of paracetamol has often been compared to aspirin, another popular OTC analgesic. In fact, the painkilling properties of paracetamol and aspirin are considered equal, but paracetamol does not have the anti-inflammatory properties of aspirin. In other words, paracetamol may be used to treat conditions such as arthritis, but it cannot relieve the swelling, redness or stiffness that is characteristic of rheumatoid arthritis, the way aspirin can. Aspirin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that can temper swelling in addition to providing pain relief.

One disadvantage to aspirin, however, is that not everyone can take it. People with gastrointestinal problems such as stomach ulcers cannot take aspirin, as NSAIDs would normally aggravate an existing gastric disorder. Paracetamol does not upset the stomach, and therefore it is a wise alternative for people who cannot take NSAIDs.

Panadol comes in capsule, tablet and soluble tablet forms. Preparations for adults normally contain 500 mg of paracetamol. This drug is mild enough for use in infants below 3 months of age, in very small doses.

It is usually all right to take Panadol with other medicines. In fact, many preparations of paracetamol in the market come with additives that enhance its analgesic properties. An example is codeine, a sedative which is found in very small amounts in Panadeine, a popular paracetamol-based OTC painkiller. Panadol Ultra also contains a tiny amount (12.8 mg) of codeine. Panadol Extra, on the other hand, contains a 65 mg caffeine additive. Panadol Actifast comes with a number of additives which enable the paracetamol to act more speedily than regular preparations.

Nonetheless, you should take care to avoid other drugs containing paracetamol when you take Panadol, lest the recommended dosage is exceeded. The normal adult dose of Panadol is 500-1000 mg per intake; any higher may cause symptoms that are commonly associated with overdose. Examples of these symptoms are diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, stomach cramps and excessive sweating. The total dose of Panadol should not be more than 4000 mg a day.

If you are taking Panadol with additives, such as Panadol Extra and Ultra, you should also take care not to take other substances that will inject additional caffeine or codeine in your body. The extra chemicals may compound the effects of the medicine and cause unpleasant side effects, like heart palpitations (in the case of caffeine) or drowsiness (in codeine).

Panadol is a pain reliever containing paracetamol, which is used for the fast, effective temporary relief of pain and discomfort associated with headache, period pain, colds and flu, tension headache, backache, and muscular aches.  Panadol is suitable for asthmatics who are sensitive to aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and is also suitable for breast feeding mothers.

What types of pain is Panadol suitable for?

The paracetamol in Panadol is an effective analgesic for acute or chronic mild-to-moderate pain.  Conditions for which there are data supporting the efficacy of paracetamol for pain relief include:

  • Headaches
  • Migraine
  • Back pain
  • Toothache
  • Sore throat
  • Period pain
  • Muscular pain
  • Colds and flu
  • Reduces Fever

How does Panadol work?

The paracetamol in Panadol works by blocking the production of chemicals, known as prostaglandins, which are involved in pain transmission.  But, unlike aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen, it blocks them in the brain.  In addition, paracetamol has also been found to act directly on nociceptors and this may reduce the signaling of the pain stimulus itself.

Safety effects and safety issues

Side effects are rare with paracetamol when it is taken at the recommended doses.  One advantage of paracetamol over aspirin and NSAIDs is that it doesn’t irritate the stomach or cause it to bleed, potential side effects of aspirin and NSAIDs.
