Treclin Gel (clindamycin, tretinoin) is a potent treatment for moderate to severe acne vulgaris. The medication can be used in patients 12 years of age and up.
This product contains two active ingredients:
Treclin Gel should not be used on broken skin, skin that is infected other than with acne, or applied to mucous membranes. This product can be harmful to unborn babies and should not be used if pregnant or trying to conceive. Effects on nursing babies are unclear; use should be avoided if breastfeeding.
Eradicating Acne with Treclin Gel
Treclin Gel is easy to use; simply apply a pea-size drop to the face once per day at bedtime. The face should be clean and dry. Using more of this product, or more frequently than recommended, will not produce better effects and may irritate the skin.
Some patients find their skin clears up within days of starting treatment, but more commonly it will take several weeks before significant improvements are seen. Acne may even worsen during the start of treatment, but should begin to clear up after a month.
Treatment may continue for up to 12 weeks. If there are no significant improvements after 8 to 12 weeks, alternative products should be considered. Rarely treatment may continue for longer than 12 weeks, but this should not be done without approval from a doctor.
If the medication is working, acne should start to reduce after a month of treatment and ideally will be gone by the 12-week mark. Treatment can be repeated if needed, as long as there are a few months between.
