Zocor Information
Simvastatin or the generic name of Zocor is a drug prescribed for patients with heart diseases to aid proper blood flow. As indicated, Zocor is a prescribed medicine for those suffering from Coronary Heart Diseases and other heart diseases. Zocor is also a good prevention for heart attacks, high cholesterol and it also reduces the risk of heart complications for those undergoing cardiac procedures.
Simvastatin The active ingredient of Zocor is an HMG CoA reductase inhibitor meaning it lowers the bad cholesterol in the body including its production as it also reduces the total amounts of apolipoprotein B the protein essential for the making of cholesterol in the body. It also reduces the production of triglycerides, another type of fat the body produces and aids in the production of good cholesterol.

Zocor Warnings
Always take Zocor as directly prescribed by your doctor and always follow instructions to the letter. If you have trouble understanding the directions, verify with your pharmacist or nurse.
Zocor should be taken at bedtime or every after the evening meal for best results. Each dose should be taken with a full glass of water.
Blood tests are required to monitor and test your liver functions before and after the treatment. That will approximately be for 6 months to determine if you need an increase in dosage depending on the results of the blood tests. Also, refer to your doctor when you are taking grapefruit or grape juice as part of your diet. The interaction of grapefruit and grape juice with Zocor might be potentially hazardous to your health.
To realize the full effectiveness of Zocor, proper diet which would consist of foods that are low in fat and low in cholesterol and a regular exercise must be constantly practiced. Aside from that, Zocor must also be taken regularly to make use of its full potential.
