Intagesic MR (chlorzoxazone, diclofenac, paracetamol) is a potent painkiller containing three active ingredients. It is used to address an assortment of painful conditions, including:
...and more. The medication is a potent painkiller, but has relatively low anti-inflammatory effects, meaning it's not a great choice for severe inflammatory conditions like arthritis. It should suffice for mild to moderate pain from nearly any cause, however.
Product Overview
Intagesic MR is currently available in only one strength, which includes the following three active ingredients:
The combination of medications makes Intagesic MR more potent than any single ingredient on its own. It is not without drawbacks, however; both diclofenac and paracetamol are commonly found in other, over-the-counter products, making it easy to take too much of them. Check ingredients carefully before using other products.
Taking Intagesic MR
Intagesic MR is used to treat mild to moderate pain from nearly any cause. It's weakest at treating inflammation, and works best at treating skeletal muscle problems; everything else is somewhere in the middle. It may have a slight sedative effect, and bed rest is usually also recommended to further promote healing.
Regardless of what it's used for, Intagesic MR is taken the same:
Doctor instructions may vary from the above and should be followed. Taking with food will likely reduce gastrointestinal side effects, if experienced.
Patients are advised to reduce alcohol intake to no more than three glasses per day while taking Intagesic MR; this increases risk of liver damage and compounds Intagesic MR's sedative effect.
Potential Complications
Patients who have preexisting kidney or liver damage should discuss risks associated with Intagesic MR prior to use; the medication can worsen these conditions.
The chlorzoxazone in Intagesic MR is a central nervous system (CNS) depressant. Taking other CNS depressants along with it can greatly increase its effects and should be avoided without doctor instruction. This includes alcohol, barbiturates, opioids and benzodiazepines.
Avoid performing dangerous tasks until the effects of Intagesic MR are known.
Blood pressure can be increased, sometimes quite significantly, while using this medication. Individuals with prior blood pressure issues should monitor blood pressure while Intagesic MR is taken.
Women who are pregnant should discuss risks versus benefits with a doctor before taking Intagesic MR. The effects on unborn babies are unclear, as are the effects of breastfeeding a baby while taking this product.
