Ketasma

Ketasma, also known as Zaditen, is a prescription drug that is used in the management of allergic symptoms linked with allergic rhinitis. Such allergic reactions include nasal congestion, sneezing, watery eyes, runny itchy nose, and itchy, red eyes among others. It is also an excellent option in the treatment of asthma attacks/bronchial asthma, and primarily mild atopic asthma in children. That said, Ketasma is not recommended for use in children under the age of three.

What is Ketasma?

Ketasma comprises the active component ketotifen, which is used to treat allergic responses and prevent acute asthma attacks. The drug belongs to the antihistamine class.

How Does Ketasma Work?

The Ketasma Tablet contains ketotifen, an ingredient which impedes the effects of histamine, preventing the body from responding to allergens that would ordinarily induce an allergic sensation.

Ketotifen is an antihistamine that acts as a sedative by binding to H1 receptors in blood vessels and the central nervous system. As a result, specific chemical messengers that may induce inflammation, spasm of airway muscles, and other symptoms of asthma and allergies are prevented.

By inhibiting the histamine H1 receptor, it hinders the development of hyperactive airways in subjects struggling with asthma and alleviates the symptoms of allergic rhinitis produced by histamine's effects.

Note: The length of time that this treatment is active in the body has not been clinically proven.

What Does Ketasma Treat?

It is used to treat the following conditions.

  • Allergic rhinitis
  • Asthma attacks
  • Eye membrane irritation
  • Eye membrane redness
  • Itchy skin rash
  • Running nose
