Medicines have benefits and some have risks. Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist or you have side effects see your health professional. Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturer depending on the country of origin. Images are provided as a reference only, the received medicine may vary in packaging, color, pill shape, etc, from one batch to the next. For an item marked "generic" any quality brand may be sent, however you will always receive the active ingredients ordered in the strength(s) ordered.
Lorsaid SD (lornoxicam) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) predominantly used to alleviate moderate pain and inflammation. It can be used to treat both acute and chronic pain, though dosage may differ to some extent.
While comparable in some respects to more common NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, Lorsaid SD is more potent than many, certainly more so than NSAIDs available over-the-counter. Considerably lower doses provide relief, and a single dose lasts for much longer---often for 8 to 24 hours---compared to many other NSAIDs. This makes Lorsaid SD more convenient for many, providing greater pain relief with fewer tablets and fewer administrations.
As with any medication, do not administer Lorsaid SD to patients under age 16 without explicit doctor approval. The medication's effect on still-developing young bodies is unclear.
Conditions Treated
Lorsaid SD has many uses in combating both pain, inflammation, or a combination of both. While it does have some fever-reducing properties it is rarely preferred for reducing fever.
It can be used sporadically as-needed or taken daily for several consecutive days or weeks depending on what's being addressed. Lorsaid can be used to treat:
While Lorsaid SD manages mild to moderate pain quite well, it is likely to only take the edge off of severe pain. If Lorsaid SD does not eliminate pain, or at least lower it to manageable levels, consult a doctor for a stronger treatment. There are many options available.
Taking Lorsaid SD
This medication comes in tablets, usually in 4 mg or 8 mg strengths. Tablets are best swallowed whole and not chewed, crushed, dissolved, or otherwise damaged. Taking with food is optional; food may help alleviate any gastrointestinal side effects, if experienced. A full glass of fluid is recommended with each dose.
Tablets begin producing results 30 to 60 minutes following administration, and in most cases effects will begin to wear off around 12 hours following administration, though there is some personal variability here.
Dosage and administration varies a bit depending on what's being treated:
As with any pain medication effects are best if Lorsaid SD is taken at the earliest symptoms of pain, if possible; for example, at the start of a headache or when joints start to feel stiff. Likewise if pain or inflammation is expected to continue for more than 8 to 12 hours, such as in arthritis or after a surgical procedure, taking the next dose on time is beneficial even if symptoms have not resurfaced; this method is particularly advantageous in treating inflammatory conditions.
Most patients find Lorsaid SD manages pain and inflammation quite well. Of course, the lowest effective dose taken for the shortest possible time is ideal. Lorsaid SD is not meant to be taken for more than a few consecutive weeks at most; taking it daily for months or years significantly increases risk of serious side effects.
Potential Side Effects
Lorsaid SD is, unfortunately, not the ideal choice for everyone. Avoid using this product if there is a history of:
Lorsaid SD should be strictly avoided during the third trimester of pregnancy. Speak with a doctor about potential risks before using during the first or second trimester, or if breastfeeding.
Common side effects from Lorsaid SD are similar to those experienced with other NSAIDs. Most people experience no side effects at all, but some individuals do experience:
The above are typically not cause for concern provided they're transient and not so severe that they become disruptive. If persistant or disruptive, it's a good idea to seek medical attention before continuing to take Lorsaid SD.
All NSAIDs can increase blood pressure, which may be a concern for those who have hypertension.
Risk of severe side effects developing, such as gastrointestinal bleeding, hypertension, heart palpitations, kidney damage, and so forth, increase significantly when the medication is taken in very high doses or used daily for a long period (months or years). Do not use this medication outside of recommended use with out explicit approval by a doctor and a commitment to regular checkups, which can monitor for developing side effects.
Lorsaid SD may interact with other medications; check with a doctor before use if taking prescription medications, particularly anticoagulants, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, antidiabetic drugs, immunosuppressant drugs, or any medications used in cancer treatments.
