FertiGyn (human chorionic gonadotropin, also known as HCG) is a synthetic version of a hormone produced naturally in both men and women by the pituitary gland, and in relatively high levels by the placenta in pregnant women. Problems may arise when naturally-occurring levels are low, and the medication is also useful at times regardless of natural production.

This medication is often used to:

• Stimulate ovulation in women
• Improve fertility in men and women
• Treat hypogonadism (low testosterone) in men
• Cause the dropping of testicles in boys prior to puberty
• Aid dieting or weight-loss
• Boost performance

As a diet aid or performance booster use of FertiGyn is highly controversial and, in most areas, use for these purposes is illegal. Patients will likely have a very difficult time finding a doctor to write a legitimate prescription.

In other uses FertiGyn is not so controversial and it will likely be a viable option. It may or may not be the preferred medication, however, depending on a number of factors, such as the believed cause of the underlying issue. If it is not the first-line choice it will likely become an option if first-line choices do not produce significant results.

Note that FertiGyn is administered by injection. Mixed solutions should be refrigerated while not in use; solution drawn into a syringe should be allowed to reach room temperature before injection. At no point should the mixed solution be frozen.

Stimulating Ovulation

To stimulate ovulation in women, FertiGyn is typically used after the patient has received an injection of human menopausal gonadotropin (HMG). Ovulation should then occur 38 to 40 hours after FertiGyn injection, making it easy to time intercourse for maximum fertilization odds.

FertiGyn is also used to stimulate ovulation in women to harvest eggs for in vitro fertilization. Collection usually takes place 34 to 36 hours after an injection.

One injection is all it takes to stimulate ovulation; however, if conception or egg harvesting fails for any reason, another injection may be administered.

Patients will do best to get dosage from a doctor.

Improving Fertility

FertiGyn can improve fertility in both genders when hormonal imbalances are decreasing fertility. It will not improve fertility in women who have undergone menopause.

Dosage and frequency of administration should be determined by a doctor. Two or three injections per week are relatively normal, with treatment continuing for six months to one year, sometimes longer. However, this can be quite variable, particularly if other medications are being taken.

Treating Male Hypogonadism

Treatment here typically consists of two or three injections per week, and treatment typically continues for as long as needed, assuming it provides benefit. Ending treatment will likely cause hypogonadism symptoms to return unless the underlying issue has been corrected.

Descending Testicles

For undescended testicles FertiGyn is only suitable for prepubescent boys; it should not used to descend testicles in sexually mature adults.

In this use treatment typically consists of three injections per week until the problem is resolved. After a period of time the medication may be considered ineffective by a doctor, at which point alternative treatments will be considered.

Weight Loss & Performance

These uses are very controversial and generally illegal. Some claim that FertiGyn promotes weight loss, helps burn fat, reduces the discomfort associated with reduced carbohydrate intake, and so forth; others claim the medication does nothing at all in these areas.

Treatment for weight loss can vary considerably, from as low as 125 to 200 iu per day and varying from daily to weekly injections.

As a performance enhancer FertiGyn is usually used during or immediately after a steroid cycle. Again dosage and frequency of treatment is quite variable, though usually around 250 to 500 iu per day. Use typically lasts only two or three weeks before taking a four-week break. It is claimed that FertiGyn prevents rapid muscle loss following abruptly ending steroids.

FertiGyn can offer an efficient solution for several issues experienced by both men and women. Keep in mind that there are many underlying causes to impaired ovulation, hypogonadism, and so forth; FertiGyn will not always be the best possible solution in all cases.
