Stromectol

Stromectol is a broad-spectrum anti-parasitic prescription medicine used to treat certain parasitic infections such as intestinal strongyloidiasis, parasites in the blood or tissue, and scabies after the failure of the prior treatment.

Stromectol is a semisynthetic drug for oral administration that belongs to a category of highly active medicines referred to as anthelmintic. These drugs bind to the muscle and nerve cells of parasites and kill them in the process. Stromectol is not addictive and may be used separately or with other medications.

However, it is not medically proven whether Stromectol is effective and safe for children weighing below 33lbs (15kgs).

Stromectol Side Effects

These are Stromectol’s infrequent side effects which tend to have severe expression once experienced:

• Retention of fluid in the eyelid tissues
• Pink eye
• Inflammation of the cornea edge
• Cornea opacity- Disorder that causes clouding of the cornea of the eye

If experienced, these rare side effects have a severe expression:

• A high amount of bilirubin in the blood
• Abnormal liver function tests
• Mazzotti reaction
• Asthma
• Hepatitis caused by liver inflammation
• Epidermal Necrolysis
• Seizures
• Decreased white blood cells
• High levels of Eosinophils in the blood
• Bleeding from the eye conjunctiva
• Low blood pressure
• Stevens-Johnson Syndrome

The following interactions were reported as possibly related to STROMECTOL in several clinical tests involving an average of 109 persons given 1 or 2 doses of 170 to 200 mcg/kg of STROMECTOL:

STROMECTOL patients experienced more chest discomforts and abdominal distention than albendazole-treated patients in comparative trials. However, STROMECTOL was tolerated well than thiabendazole in experiential studies of 37 patients treated with thiabendazole.

These ophthalmological side effects have been confirmed after medication with STROMECTOL:

• Eyelid edema
• Limbitis
• Unusual sensation in the eyes
• Anterior uveitis
• Keratitis
• Conjunctivitis
• Chorioretinitis

However, these conditions are rarely severe and have never been associated with vision loss, and they have generally been resolved without the use of corticosteroids.

Directions of Dosage

Tablet 3mg

Treatment for Strongyloidiasis according to the weight of a person

• 15-24 kg, administer 3 mg PO once
• 25-35 kilograms issue 6 mg PO a day
• 36-50 kilograms issue 9 mg PO a day
• 51-65 kilograms issue 12 mg PO a day
• 66-79 kilograms issue 15 mg PO a day
• >80 kilograms issue 200 mcg/kg PO per day

Treatment for Onchocerciasis

• 15–25 kg 3 mg PO retake in three–twelve months
• 26-44 kg 6 mg PO retake in three-twelve months
• 45-64 kg  9 mg PO retake in three–twelve months
• 65-84 kg 12 mg PO retake in three–twelve months
• 85 kg 150 mcg/kg PO retake in three–twelve months

Considerations for Dosing:

In general, repeat doses are not required. However, it is essential to perform stool examinations to ensure infection eradication.

It is also important to note that Stromectol does not treat adult worms. Therefore, they must be surgically excised.

Storage

Store your tablets inside the foil packaging until you're ready to take them. If you remove the pills from the foil, they may not last as long.

STROMECTOL should be kept in a cool, dry place with an average temperature of 30°C.

Keep it, along with any other medications, near a sink or in the bathroom. Avoid leaving it in the car or anywhere else.

Stromectol medicine can be destroyed by heat and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children.

Administration

STROMECTOL is available in tablet form.

Take the tablets on an empty stomach with a glass of water—no food consumption two hours before or after administration. 

Crush the tablets for kids under the age of 6 before swallowing.

It is recommended that you take the medicines as indicated by your doctor. Patients who received an overdose of STROMECTOL experienced decreased alertness, including coma.
