CRYSTADERM FIRST AID CREAM

Hydrogen Peroxide 1% w/w

Crystaderm cream is a first aid cream used for the treatment of minor skin infections and prevention of infection in minor cuts, scrapes and burns. It is also helpful in the treatment of acne and school sores. Antibiotic resistance is becoming a serious problem throughout the world. Crystaderm cream is not an antibiotic cream but it works as well as one. It is generally well tolerated and not associated with any serious side effects. However, a mild sensation of burning may be experienced for a short time after application. How to Use After cleansing the wound apply Crystaderm sparingly to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily for a maximum of 21 days.

Crystaderm Cream (hydrogen peroxide) is used to prevent or treat infections in the skin. It is effective at destroying a wide range of bacteria as well as some types of viruses or fungi.

A large advantage Crystaderm Cream offers over first aid creams which contain antibiotics is that hydrogen peroxide kills antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Furthermore, use of Crystaderm Cream does not contribute to further development of resistant bacteria. This makes Crystaderm Cream an excellent choice as concerns about resistant bacteria increase around the world.

Used properly, Crystaderm Cream is very safe and can be used in all ages. It is also readily available without a prescription in most areas.

Preventing Infection with Crystaderm Cream

For the most part Crystaderm Cream is used very similarly to other first aid creams, including those containing antibiotics, to prevent infection in:

  • Scrapes or cuts
  • Insect bites or stings
  • Minor burns
  • Body piercing sites
  • Other minor wounds

Ideally a wound should be washed as soon as possible, and any bleeding stopped. Once a wound is clean and dry:

  • Apply a thin layer of Crystacide cream to wound.
  • Site may be covered with dressing if desired.
  • Repeat 2 to 3 times per day if needed.
  • Continue treatment if needed for up to 3 weeks.

As the cream dries it forms a thin layer over the application site. This helps hold the medication in place as well as prevents additional contamination. The film is easily washed off with water if desired.

A dressing over the wound also provides protection and helps keep the medication in place. A covered injury may only need Crystaderm Cream applied once per day. Uncovered wounds may require reapplication two or three times per day.

A wound should be significantly healed within three weeks. If it is not, or if symptoms of infection develop---pain, inflammation, discharge, red lines radiating from wound, and so forth---discontinue use and seek medical advice.

Treating Infection with Crystaderm Cream

Crystaderm Cream makes it possible to use hydrogen peroxide to treat existing infections without concern for the flaking, peeling and other skin irritation which develop as hydrogen peroxide dries the skin. In a cream, the infection-fighting properties of hydrogen peroxide are retained while the other ingredients prevent excessive drying.

Crystaderm Cream is commonly used to combat:

  • Acne
  • Eczema
  • Impetigo
  • Infected wounds or burns
  • Other minor skin infections

In many cases administration is similar to that used for infection prevention; a layer of the cream is applied to the affect area one to three times daily. However, instructions can vary depending on the type of infection, its severity, and if other topical treatments are also being administered. For best results, speak with a doctor or pharmacist about how best to clear up acne, eczema, impetigo or similar skin infections.

If infection worsens during treatment discontinue use and seek medical advice.

Precautions & Side Effects

As previously mentioned, Crystaderm Cream is a very safe treatment. There are only a few concerns to keep in mind:

  • Avoid using the cream in mucous membranes, including eyes, nose, mouth and genitals.
  • Avoid use in deep wounds or over large areas of the body.
  • Avoid contact with hair or fabrics---the cream may cause bleaching.
  • Avoid using the cream at the same time as other oxidizing agents, such as iodine or permanganate.
  • Avoid ingesting the cream. If consumed by children or pets, seek medical attention.

Some patients experience a mild burning when the cream is applied; others do not. Burning or stinging should quickly pass and is not cause for concern unless severe.

The most serious risk of Crystaderm Cream is allergic reaction to the ingredients. Though very rare, this condition can be life-threatening if rapid medical attention is not sought. Warning signs include rapid swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, rash, hives or severe itching at the application site, and difficulty breathing.

Crystaderm Cream

I'm allergic to Neosporin. I develop what looks like a severe infection when I use it. Crystaderm/ crystacide works extremely well on minor skin scrapes and cuts as well as cat scratches. I'll never u...se anything else again unless it is a badly infected large wound. Even here I'd try crystaderm first but haven't had any experience with large wounds.
