Lamisil, an effective treatment for various fungal skin infections, is available in the form of tablets as well as a cream. The cream may be applied mainly to cure the following infections:
*Athlete’s Foot (tinea pedis)
*Ringworm(tinea corpis)
*Pityriasis versicolor
*Fungal infection in the groin
*Yeast infections of the skin
The active ingredient in Lamisil cream is terbinafine hydrochloride. Every gram of Lamisil cream contains 10mg of terbinafine hydrochloride. The cream works to kill the fungi and yeasts by preventing them from producing a chemical called “Ergosterol” (a vital component of the fungal cell membrane).
Lamisil cream may be applied to the infected area as per the following recommended dosage:
*Athlete’s Foot (tinea pedis) – for a period of 1 week (twice a day) or for 2-4 weeks (once a day)
*Cutaneous candidiasis – for a period of 1-2 weeks
*Ringworm – for 1-2 weeks
*Pityriasis Versicolor – for a period of 2 weeks.
To apply Lamisil cream, thoroughly clean the infected area and pat it dry. In case the cream needs to be applied in between fingers, toes, in the groin area or under the armpit or breast, it is recommended that the area be covered with gauze after the application of the cream. Ensure that hands are washed thoroughly after using Lamisil cream and take care to not get it in the eyes.
The regular application of Lamisil cream for a few days should generally yield good results. It is, however, recommended that the Lamisil cream be used until the infection is completely eliminated and not stopped on the first signs of an improvement in the condition. While the infection may have subsided externally, the infected area may not have healed completely.
Dos and don’ts while using Lamisil cream
*Lamisil cream is for external application only.
*Any contact with the eyes must be avoided. If indeed there is contact, wash immediately with lots of water.
*Complete the course until the infection is totally cleared so that there is no threat of relapse.
*Lamisil cream is not for use by children. Keep the cream away from children and pets.
*It is not to be used by nursing mothers.
*It should not be used by patients having any allergy to any of the ingredients present in the cream.
*The effects of use of Lamisil cream during pregnancy is not fully known , therefore, it is not advisable to use it during pregnancy unless under medical supervision.
Some of the side effects observed while using Lamisil cream are itching, redness or stinging of the skin in the area where the cream is applied. If regular use of the cream for a few days doesn’t show the desired results or causes persistent discomfort, contact a medical practitioner immediately.
