Medicines have benefits and some have risks. Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist or you have side effects see your health professional. Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturer depending on the country of origin. Images are provided as a reference only, the received medicine may vary in packaging, color, pill shape, etc, from one batch to the next. For an item marked "generic" any quality brand may be sent, however you will always receive the active ingredients ordered in the strength(s) ordered.
Ozempic from regular suppliers is on short supply globally, and all strengths are currently on backorder. During this shortage we have located alternate reseller stock, which is more expensive due to resellers adding their markups. These are different listing on our website, and typically ship with no delay. For regular stock, when we get new stock, oldest orders are filled first with new stock. Once we have cleared our backlog of orders for regularly priced stock, we will re-enable those listings for purchase. However we don't expect major changes in the shortages until later in 2024. For other alternatives, we recommend the Rybelsus tablets on this same page, Trulicity / dulaglutide, or Bydureon / exenatide or Saxenda / liraglutide as an alternative, but there are others as well. Ozempic play a critical role in the treatment of various health conditions. Key among them is Type 2 Diabetic following its FDA approval on December 5, 2017. The second condition that Ozempic helps is the reduction of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) among patients with Type 2 Diabetes. These risks include stroke, heart attack, or death in adults suffering from Type 2 diabetes with known cases of heart disease.
Apparently, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is considered the primary cause of disability and death among individuals with Type 2 Diabetes mellitus. As a matter of fact, adults suffering from Type 2 Diabetes are more likely to develop CVD than those without diabetes.
To begin with, Ozepimpic is one of the medications belonging to a class of drugs commonly referred to as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists or incretin mimetics. This medication is administered through injection subcutaneously.
Once you inject yourself with Ozempic, it binds itself to GLP-1 receptors. As a result, it helps stimulate the production of insulin from your pancreas anytime you need it. The release of insulin helps to reduce your blood sugar levels including A1C.
Apart from that, the binding of Ozempic to GLP-1 helps in lowering the quantity of sugar (glucose) that your liver releases. By doing so, this medication helps slow down the amount of food that your stomach releases. Less quantity of food being released by your stomach reduces your appetite drastically, thus making you lose some weight in the process.
Ozempic can as well help to protect against stroke and heart attack if you have Type 2 Diabetes alongside a known heart disease.
During some clinical trials carried out by the manufacturer, Ozempic (semaglutide) was used in the trial as a single treatment against the placebo or an inactive agent. Ozempic was also combined with a few other Type 2 Diabetes drugs such as metformin (on its own), metformin with a sulfonylurea, and metformin with thiazolidinediones.
Further, Ozemic effectiveness was compared with insulin glargine, sitagliptin, and exenatide extended-release. During these trials, Ozempic doses of 0.5mg and 1mg were injected weekly. This dosage administration led to a significant reduction of the A1C levels across all the studies ranging from 30 to 56 weeks.
Normally, it takes about eight weeks to reduce your A1C to less than 7 depending upon where the hemoglobin A1C is at the start of Ozemic dosage.
During the 56-week clinal trial’s comparison of the effects of semaglutide to sitagliptin, it was found that Ozempic reduced the mean-base A1C of about 8% down to around 7% towards the end of week eight. By week 16 the A1C levels were less than 6.5%.
In yet another clinical trial, Ozempic reduced the A1C by approximately 1.4% to about 1.6% (after 30 weeks of studies). Additionally, Ozempic was able to lower fasting blood sugar (glucose) levels by 41-44mg/dL at the end of the 38th week of treatment.
Patients who managed to achieve an A1C <7% were 70%-73% of those using Ozmipc medication compared to about 28% on placebo. These studies clearly point out the effects of Ozempic on your blood sugar levels in comparison to other medications.
Here are the most common side effects of Ozempics as reported in ≥5% of those subjected to Ozempic treatment:
Diarrhea (8%-9%)
Nausea (16%-20%)
Vomiting (5%-9%)
Constipation (3%-5%)
Abdominal (stomach) pain (6%-7%)
When starting Ozempic treatment you should expect stomach side effects although they may subside over time in some patients.
As a once-weekly injectable medicine for patients with Type 2 Diabetes, Ozempic can also help improve your heart health. This medication has been approved to lower the risks of major cardiovascular events namely stroke, heart attack, and even death among individuals with Type 2 Diabetes.
