Imitrex (
sumatriptan) is an effective, widely used medication usually prescribed for treatment of migraine headaches. Imitrex is available in a variety of forms, but the Imitrex Injection Treatment Pack offers distinct advantages over other delivery methods:
- Medication works faster by injection
- Administration is simplified using the Imitrex Injection Treatment Pack contents
- Imitrex injections are effective against cluster headaches
Imitrex is strictly an abortive medication; it will not prevent or reduce the frequency with which migraines or cluster headaches occur, but it will stop a headache in progress. It is not effective on other types of headaches.
Cluster Headaches:Though originally designed to combat migraines, Imitrex injections have also proven to be a solution for cluster headaches--in fact, Imitrex injections are the most effective abortive treatment currently available.
Though not quite as effective as injections for some patients,
Imitrex Nasal Spray may also help lessen the severity of a cluster headache. Tablets have little effect due to the relatively slow absorption into the bloodstream.
Imitrex Injection Treatment Pack Contents:Imitrex Injection Treatment Packs are a convenient way to store and administer Imitrex injections. The enhanced speed with which injections work is a clear benefit, but in the midst of a severe headache fumbling with vials and syringes is no easy task. The Imitrex Injection Treatment Pack was assembled with speed and ease of use in mind.
Each Imitrex Injection Treatment Pack includes:
- Carrying case; protects contents from damage and exposure.
- 2 syringe cartridges; simply insert a cartridge into the injection pen and it's ready for use.
- Injection pen; place the loaded pen against the injection site and press the button on top to administer.
Empty cartridges should be discarded; the case and injection pen are reusable and can be restocked with
Imitrex Injection Refill Packs.
Administering Imitrex Injections:Imitrex injections are usually given in 6 mg doses. Depending on physician instructions, a second dose may be used after a minimum interval of one hour. Do not exceed 12 mg in a 24 hour period.
Ideally an injection is given at the earliest signs of a headache, though it will still help mitigate pain at later stages as well.
Effects are typically felt within 5 to 15 minutes. With the Imitrex Injection Treatment Pack tools, preparation takes only a moment.
Imitrex injections should be delivered subcutaneously; into a layer of the skin. Ideal locations for subcutaneous injections include outer upper arms, hips, upper buttocks, and upper thighs.
The injection pen which comes with the Imitrex Injection Treatment Pack is designed for subcutaneous delivery; the needle is short, ensuring it does not go too deep, and the push-button delivery method makes it easy to use in areas that would be difficult to self-administer with a traditional syringe.
