Medicines have benefits and some have risks. Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist or you have side effects see your health professional. Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturer depending on the country of origin. Images are provided as a reference only, the received medicine may vary in packaging, color, pill shape, etc, from one batch to the next. For an item marked "generic" any quality brand may be sent, however you will always receive the active ingredients ordered in the strength(s) ordered.
Bydureon BCise is a new once-weekly injectable medication for type 2 diabetes. It is a long-acting form of exenatide, which is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. GLP-1 receptor agonists are medications used to treat type 2 diabetes by promoting insulin secretion and lowering glucose levels.
Bydureon was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in early 2018. It is available in a prefilled pen containing 2 mL of solution and administered as a subcutaneous injection weekly. Bydureon BCise is still a new medication to some people, and there is limited information on its right usage.
If you have been prescribed Bydureon BCise, it is important to know how to use the medication correctly. Here is a quick rundown of the steps involved in using the Bydureon Pen:
Step 1. First, shake the device before opening it. For around 15 minutes, shake the device thoroughly with the cap pointing up. This will ensure that the medicine is evenly mixed.
Step 2. Next, unlock the cap by rotating it from the Lock position to Unlock. Usually, the bottle produces a click sound to indicate that it is ready for opening.
Step 3. Then, unscrew the cap completely by holding the device straight up, removing the cap, and discarding it.
Step 4. Finally, inject the medicine into your skin. The injection will produce a click sound. At least 15 seconds of pressure will ensure you get the entire dosage.
After getting your medication ready, you will need to inject the medication yourself. This can seem daunting at first, but with a little practice, it will become second nature.
Before you begin, you will need to gather the following supplies:
- Bydureon BCise pen and cartridge
- Alcohol swabs
- Band-aids
Once you have all of your supplies, follow these steps:
1. Choose and clean the injection site with an alcohol swab. The most common injection sites are the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. You can use the same body part each week, but select a different injection site in that part.
2. Apply the autoinjector to your skin. When the injection starts, you will hear a “click.” Keep pressing the autoinjector into the skin for the remainder of the 15 seconds. This is done to ensure that the full dose is administered.
3. Dispose autoinjector in an FDA-approved container. If you don’t have one, you can use a heavy-duty plastic household container in your house.
4. Check that you’ve administered the full dose. After removing the needle, check for the orange rod in the window, which indicates full dose intake. If there’s no orange rod, call Customer Service.
