Medicines have benefits and some have risks. Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist or you have side effects see your health professional. Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturer depending on the country of origin. Images are provided as a reference only, the received medicine may vary in packaging, color, pill shape, etc, from one batch to the next. For an item marked "generic" any quality brand may be sent, however you will always receive the active ingredients ordered in the strength(s) ordered.
You're considering taking Saxenda for weight loss, but you're not sure what dosage is right for you. How do you administer your own injections, and why do you need to increase your dose?
We are here to answer all your questions so you can understand the Saxenda injection and administer the correct dose every time.
Saxenda is taken as an injection once a day. Your healthcare provider can help you decide the best time of day for you to take your Saxenda injection. Saxenda injections should be given subcutaneously (under the skin), typically in the stomach area, or as otherwise directed by your doctor.
Saxenda is available in different doses, with the most common being 0.6 mg per day for adults, increasing each week until reaching a maximum dose of 3mg per day. This process of gradually building up the dosage is called titration. It helps your body adjust to the new medication while allowing your doctor to determine the best dosage for you based on its effectiveness and side effects.
The same dosage schedule should be followed for children and adolescents between 12 and 17 years old, starting from 0.6 mg daily. For children aged 7-11 years old, they should begin with a lower dose of 0.3 mg per day for one week before gradually increasing to a maximum of 3mg per day. If a patient does not tolerate a dose increase, we recommend lowering the dosage back to its previous level.
It is important to follow your doctor's instructions on the Saxenda dosage and titrate the medication gradually until it reaches the recommended maximum dose. This helps determine your dose and ensure your body adjusts to the medication appropriately.
The quantity of Saxenda pens you need depends on your titration stage. The first month requires three pens: one for the first 17 days, one for the next eight days, and one for the last day. By then, you'll be consuming 3 mg daily. At this stage, each pen lasts six days. Therefore, you need five pens to last a month. At first, it may seem complicated, but it should become easier with time.
