Medicines have benefits and some have risks. Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist or you have side effects see your health professional. Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturer depending on the country of origin. Images are provided as a reference only, the received medicine may vary in packaging, color, pill shape, etc, from one batch to the next. For an item marked "generic" any quality brand may be sent, however you will always receive the active ingredients ordered in the strength(s) ordered.
Metformin marketed as Glucophage (among other names), is often the first medicine taken to treat type 2 diabetes, particularly for people with overweight issues. It also helps to treat polycystic ovary syndrome.
The drug lowers blood sugar levels by telling the liver to produce less glucose and lowering insulin resistance. It also enables the intestines to absorb less glucose from food.
Risk factors such as kidney, liver, and heart problems can put you at risk of experiencing Metformin side effects. Alcohol use and surgical or radiological procedures are other risk factors to note. It’s, therefore, important to consult with your physician before taking the drug if any of these factors apply to your situation.
The common side effects most people have in the initial stages of taking Metformin include nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. These problems only last a few days.
Taking your Metformin medicine with a meal may help reduce these side effects. Your doctor can also prescribe a low dosage and increase it gradually to lower your risk of experiencing severe diarrhea. Other common Metformin side effects include:
Stomach pain
Heartburn
Bloating
Gas
Unpleasant metallic taste in the mouth
Headache
Weight loss
Constipation
Though on rare occasions, some people report nail problems, rashes, heart palpitations, flushing, and sweating while taking Metformin. Others may develop hypoglycemia if they combine the medicine with strenuous exercise, a poor diet, excessive alcohol, and other diabetes drugs.
The National Health Service renders it safe to take Metformin with insulin or by itself while expectant or breastfeeding. Though the drug crosses the placenta, it doesn't increase the rates of fetal development complications or issues. The only side effects a pregnant woman is likely to experience while taking Metformin are diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea.
Some of the serious side effects you may experience when taking Metformin include lactic acidosis, vitamin B12 deficiency, and anemia. Metformin-associated lactic acidosis occurs when lactic acid builds up in the body. Its risk factors include excessive alcohol use, liver or kidney disease, dehydration, and severe congestive heart failure.
While vitamin B12 deficiency can occur to anyone, the risk is quite higher when taking Metformin. This condition results in tingling or numbness in the legs and feet and anemia (with symptoms such as lightheadedness, dizziness, and tiredness). Taking vitamin B12 supplements can help treat this condition.
If the potential side effects of medically-prescribed Metformin are a concern, consider talking with your doctor. Inquire about the side effects to watch out for, your risk of lactic acidosis, and an alternative medication with fewer side effects.

I have ordered Metformin from Kiwi, and from another site. The Metformin from Kiwi lowered my blood sugar. The Metformin from the other site did not. The Kiwi product is the real deal.
